Things to do if AI fails to complete a generation or freezes up

Written by Paul Gaurano

If a generation stops, freezes, or comes back as an error, it is usually one of these:

  1. The AI model's servers stopped responding

  2. Magai's connection to that model was interrupted

  3. Your internet connection dropped

What to do

  1. Stop the run if Magai is still spinning. Use the Stop control in the prompt box.

  2. If you got a partial reply and it looks useful, send a follow-up like "Continue" so the model can pick up from there.

  3. If the reply is wrong or empty, send the prompt again. Some chats also have a regenerate / retry control on the message.

  4. Check your prompt. A clearer, shorter prompt often completes more reliably than a very long one.

Does a failed generation use my usage?

Yes. Failed, frozen, stopped, or regenerated generations still count against your usage. Magai pays the model provider for tokens that were processed, even if you never got a finished answer. A redo is a new request, not a free retry.

If a failed run burned a large amount of usage, email [email protected] or use in-app chat with the chat link and about when it happened. Credits for failed generations are handled case by case, not automatically.
