Uploading Knowledge to Agents in Magai: A Step-by-Step Guide

How to give Magai Agents extra context with chat attachments, Agent files, and workspace knowledge.

Written by Paul Gaurano

Give an Agent the files it should know

You can give Magai extra context so answers stay on your material, not only on the model's training data. In Magai V3 that context lives in three places:

  • This chat — files, links, and pages you attach to a prompt. Magai uses them for that conversation.

  • An Agent — files and instructions that travel with that Agent whenever you select it.

  • A Workspace — files and instructions available to chats in that workspace, no matter which Agent is selected.

If you used Personas before, Agent knowledge is the same idea with the current name.

Option 1: Attach files in a chat

Use this when you only need the file for this conversation.

  1. Open a chat and select the Agent you want from Select Agent on the prompt bar.

  2. Click Attach.

  3. Add files, a video link (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and similar), or a web page URL.

  4. Write your prompt and send. Magai can use transcripts, page content, and file text to answer.

Chat attachments do not automatically become lasting Agent knowledge. If you want the Agent to remember the material in later chats, add it to the Agent or the workspace.

Option 2: Add lasting knowledge to an Agent

  1. In a chat, open Select Agent from the prompt bar (it may still show a name such as Assistant).

  2. Select the Agent you want, or click + New Agent to create one.

  3. In the Agent editor, look for a files or knowledge area. Upload your documents there (common formats include PDF, DOCX, and TXT). If you do not see a files area on that Agent, use workspace knowledge or attach the file in chat instead.

  4. Wait for processing. Files typically show a pending status first, then succeed or fail. If a file fails, delete it and upload it again, one at a time.

  5. Add or update the Agent's instructions so it knows when to use the files. For example: You have access to uploaded knowledge files about our product specs. Use them when the user asks about features, pricing, or implementation. Quote the files when you need specifics.

Uploaded Agent knowledge is stored for that Agent. Other Agents do not automatically see those files unless you upload them there too, or you put the files on the workspace.

Option 3: Add knowledge to a Workspace

Workspace knowledge is available to chats in that workspace. Open the workspace you want to edit, upload files, wait until they finish processing, then add instructions that tell Magai when to use them. Any chat in that workspace can draw on those files, including when an Agent is selected.

Using the knowledge

  • Select the Agent (and workspace) that has the files, then ask questions that those files can answer.

  • If Magai ignores the documents, check that processing succeeded and that your instructions name the files and the situations to use them.

  • You can add more files or remove ones you no longer need, then save.

If uploads fail or Magai will not use the files

  • Wait a few minutes if status is still pending, then retry a single file.

  • Use a supported format and readable text. Very large or scanned files are more likely to fail.

  • Use a model that can work with tools and files. New chats start on Claude Sonnet 5. Switch models in the unified model picker if needed.

  • If Magai shows a knowledge upload error, fix the file type or size and try again. Recent Magai updates made those errors clearer.
